And the Kidderminster Creatives grant goes to...

Posted on:Feb 12, 2016

Back in October 2015, we teamed up with Kidderminster Creatives who asked local artists in Wyre Forest to submit their ideas to create a small scale commission ready for next year’s Kidderminster Arts Festival (KAF).

Two grants of £250 were available from Kidderminster Creatives to the artists who presented the most inspiring and unique ideas. We are pleased to announce that the winners have been chosen.

Local artist Kate Wragg has submitted an idea which is very much in line with next year’s theme. You may remember Sir Rowland Hill outside Kidderminster’s Town Hall sporting a cape this year for the festival. This year, he will have his very own acoustic guitar. This will represent the theme of the Music Heritage Trail set to take Kidderminster by storm next August 2016.

Kate has a wealth of experience and has been a part of KAF before, she is also responsible for designing the set for David Walliams ‘Ratburger’.  It’s pretty safe to say, Kate is a unique individual and we can’t wait to see her commission this year. We’re really looking forward to welcoming Kate back and working with her again during KAF16.

The second grant has been awarded to a group of County artists including Clik Clik Collective, Collective Unconsciousness, Spare Room Arts and Phil Wilkins who will be creating The Glitter playground. In the 70’s when Kidderminster’s Music scene was in its heyday Glam Rock was at its most powerful

An average playground will be transformed into a sparkling space during KAF creating a place for young people to hang out and dance. There are plans in place to apply for further funding. This will allow school disco type events, sound clips and more to be included throughout the festival.

The theme for Kidderminster Arts Festival next year is ‘Exploring our Music Heritage’ and will see the launch of Kidderminster’s Music Heritage Trail – it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before running throughout the whole of August!
